MUMBAI/AHMEDABAD - Gujarat and Maharashtra are celebrating their golden jubilee today.

On the first of May in 1960, the two states were carved out of the State of Bombay.

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan and Chief Minister Ashok Chavan led the State in paying tributes to the 105 martyrs of the movement.

Sankaranarayanan also inaugurated an exhibition organised by the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations on ‘Maharashtra’s Progress during the last 50 years’ at Shivaji Park.

In Ahmedabad, senior BJP leader LK Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister paid tribute to the founding father of modern Gujarat, Indulal Yagnik.

“On this occasion…this does not matter that who is ruling…but the bottom-line is that the sense of pride and happiness should also flow in the minds and hearts of common people. I congratulate Narendra Modi for organizing such a grand and gala programme…but at the same time, until the king (ruler), and the common people together put their efforts, the development of a state and the nation is not possible,” said Advani. Advani also said that the way Gujarat state is developing, it has become a model state for others.

He also expressed his happiness that he is representing Gujarat in the Lok Sabha. (ANI)
