Assam Police arrest two UNLF militants

DISPUR - Assam Police arrested two United National Liberation Front (UNLF) members in Guwahati on Saturday.
According to Assam Police, Vice-Chairman KS Tomba, alias Vikramjit, alias Sunil, was arrested along with his close associate, Self Styled Lt Col Abu, alias Dilip Singh, from a rented house in the city.
Security forces believe the arrest of the duo to be a major catch.
“These two men were in Guwahati. What were their plans, we will come to know about it after the interrogation. This successful catch was a result of joint operation by CRPF, Assam Police and Army Intelligence… According to us, this is a huge success. We are undertaking the interrogation,” said Jaswinder Singh, Assistant Commandant, CRPF, Guwahati.
A laptop and some incriminating documents belonging to the outfit have also been recovered from the arrested duo.
The police are conducting interrogation and are trying to find out links of arrested cadre and the vice chairman.
“Basically the inputs are there and looking at the catch that we are having in recent times, such organizations are frequenting Guwahati. The Self Styled Lt Col is already staying here for more than two years. So definitely he will be having some links here. So we ate trying to find that out,” said Longnit Teron, Additional Superintendent of Police, Guwahati.
The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), an insurgent group in the state of Manipur, was formed under the leadership of Areambam Samrendra Singh on November 24 in 1964 to achieve independence and a socialist society.
The outfit operates in areas of Assam and is believed to be maintaining close associations with many other insurgent groups of the Northeast.
The UNLF is known for targeting security forces and till date they have killed hundreds of security personnel. (ANI)
