MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Union Defence minster A K Antony said on Thursday that The Indian Industry must give priority to the shipbuilding program of the country. Yesterday was a memorable day for the Indian navy. One of its most advanced and powerful stealth Frigate ships named INS Shivalik was commissioned yesterday. The minister said in his speech that the navy should stress on building indigenous warships and frigates rather than importing them from other countries at steep costs. He also added that the ship building industry has to modernize itself according to the need of the time. It is very important to adhere to the global standards of quality construction in ship making, he said.

The Defence minister expressed his happiness over the commissioning of indigenously built Stealth Frigate INS Shivalik. He said in his speech that the need to beef up the coastline security has increased in recent times. The country must be ready to thwart terrorist attempts that are carried out through marine routes and for that incorporation of advanced warship becomes a necessity, according to his opinion. The INS Shivalik which has been commissioned for us by Indian Navy is the world’s biggest stealth frigate as of now.

With the inclusion of INS Shivalik in its fleet the defense capacity of Indian Navy got a boost yesterday. Two more ships modeled on the category of INS Shivalik will get commissioned by 2011. The INS Shivalik is capable of coping with Nuclear and biological warfare attacks. It has a state of the art automatic climate control system on board.
