Paramilitary forces face shortage of bullet proof jackets

NEW DELHI - The paramilitary forces in the country face a shortage of 87,121 bullet proof (BP) jackets, parliament was informed Tuesday.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), primarily tasked with internal security duties, faces a shortage of 40,069 BP jackets. It is followed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards public sector undertakings and establishments of national importance, with shortage of 15,127 BP jackets. The elite National Security Guards (NSG) face a shortage of 1,725 BP jackets.

\”The reason for the shortfall in the BP jackets is the delayed finalisation of the current tender which was initiated in July 2009,\” Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran informed the Lok Sabha.
