NEVADA - Memorial ceremony for internationally renowned Buddhist scholar and founder-Pastor of Reno Buddhist Church (RBC), Reverend Dr. Daigan Lee Matsunaga, was held in Reno (Nevada, USA) on April 25.

Matsunaga, who died in Japan, founded RBC in 1989 with his wife Rev. Dr. Alicia Orloff.

Besides being RBC Pastor, he was also Temple Master of Eikyoji Temple in Hokkaido (Japan).

Ceremony included chanting from “Zen-sho kada”, “San Sei Ge”, and “Shoshinge”; “Sakura” by Mike Tuller and Nembutsu Singers; and speeches. Speakers included Buddhist leader Masahiro JO from Tokyo (Japan); Reno Buddhist priests Phil Bryan and Dennis Travers; and Hindu statesman Rajan Zed.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, recited Gayatri Mantra (most sacred mantra of Hinduism from the oldest scripture Rig-Veda, dating to around 1,500 BCE) on the occasion and the audience recited after him. To honor Dr. Matsunaga’s legacy, let us learn from one another and live harmoniously with each other as we were all headed in the same direction, Zed pointed out.

Although affiliated with Jodo Shinshu Pure Land denomination of Japanese Buddhism, RBC describes itself as basically a Sangha of non-denominational Buddhists. (ANI)
