Punjab Police gun down two militants in Gurdaspur

GURDASPUR - Punjab police on Sunday shot dead two militants in an hour-long gun-battle here in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district near the India-Pakistan international border.

According to police, the encounter also involved death of two policemen.

“DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) sahib fired and killed two militants bravely on the spot. In the firing, two policemen have been martyred and one has been injured,” said Alok Nath Angra, Senior Superintendent of Police.

The encounter that occurred at Ratarwan village of the district following a tip off to the police that two men, carrying weapons, had visited a house late on Friday (April 23) night and asked for directions to the main road, the police said.

However, the identities of the militants are yet to be established.

Security forces, meanwhile, have begun search operations in the area. (ANI)
