Beirut, April 23 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated 10 aircraft to Lebanon in a bid to strengthen the country’s armed forces.

The UAE donated four aircraft in the first batch to the Lebanese Army Thursday, under a cooperation agreement between the two governments and aims to strengthen the capability of the army, Maj. Gen. Fares Mohammed Al-Mazroui, head of the Logistics Command of the UAE Armed Forces, said.

The Puma aircraft are advantageous because they are able to work round the clock and can fly over mountains, thanks to the four-dimensional autopilot and navigation systems on board, he said.

The deputy chief of staff of the Lebanese army, in a speech made on behalf of Lebanon’s army chief, thanked UAE and its leader for this noble gesture.

The spirit of love and solidarity shown by UAE spelt out deep pride in the brotherly ties between the two countries, he said.
