Press group: Honduras must probe reporter slayings

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — The Inter American Press Association is urging Honduran authorities to investigate the killings of six journalists.

The group’s president, Alejandro Aguirre, said in a statement Wednesday that Honduras has become one of the most dangerous countries for journalists.

A gunman killed journalist Georgino Orellana late Tuesday as he left a TV studio in the city of San Pedro Sula.

Orellana was the sixth journalist killed this year in Honduras. No arrests have been made in any of the slayings.

Chief prosecutor Luis Alberto Rubi suggested Wednesday that the killings are part of a wave of violence in Honduras and are not tied to the victims’ work as journalists.
