NEW DELHI - Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur today commended women achievers from various walks of life at an exclusive event in the national capital.

The ladies organisation of India’s leading corporate forum, FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry), hosts this function annually.

Among the award winners for this year were federal parliamentarian Priya Dutt, well-known media professional Shaili Chopra, Bollywood actor Vidya Balan and boxer Mary Kom who were felicitated with ‘Tejaswani’ award by the minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Kaur said that courtesy the mass awareness about the vital relevance of the girl child and the fruits of educating her, both in the urban and rural areas, the future of the country is bright.

“The people are beginning to realise that yes a girl is an equivalent to support a family as a boy is. So, I think there is this great shining ray of hope that we will be able to protect our girl child, nurture her, let her blossom and shed her bit of radiance in the world,” Kaur said.

Instituted by the young Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries Ladies Organisation these awards honour women for their achievements in fields ranging from social activism, health care and education to entrepreneurship. (ANI)
