LOHGARA - Farmers of Lohagara in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district staged a mass protest on Thursday against the construction of a 5,000 megawatts power project being constructed by Jaypee Group.
Hundreds of angry farmers gathered near the project site and raised slogans when the top officials of the Jaypee Group arrived to survey the construction work.
They lamented that they were yet to receive due compensation for the land acquired by the Jaypee Group on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for the mega project.
” We have been protesting for the last two years and will continue unless and until our demands are met,” said S K Shukla, a farmer.
However, the Jaypee Group officials said that the demands of the farmers would be considered and fulfilled after discussing these with the District Magistrate.
“Some of their demands are already under consideration. I will discuss the genuine aspects of their demands related to compensation and with the District Magistrate and decide over the issue. The 5,000 megawatts power project, which has to be set up in this region would not only benefit the 1,000 to 2,500 hectares of land over here but also the entire region of Allahabad,” said Samir Gaur, Director of Jaypee Group.
