Two killed in Mathura blast

MATHURA - At least two persons killed and eight others were injured when a live rocket went off in a scrap depot at Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura city on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place at Nai Basti area, a predominant locality for army scrap trade.

The place is barely 150 meters away from Krishna Janmasthan area, a popular place where Krishna devotees frequent.

According to initial reports, a scrap dealer named Ansar had procured some army metal scrap and one of his sons was busy segregating the scarp.

During this activity, one of the live rockets went off catching all those present on the spot unawares.

According to police, the injured were rushed to District Hospital and the bodies sent for autopsy.

Police ruled out any terror angle to the blast.

Mathura Police Commissioner Radha S Chauhan and Inspector General Vijay Kumar, Special Superintendent of Police (SSP) B D Paulson rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. (ANI)
