West Bengal villagers on hunger strike to demand release of Maoist suspect

MATHURAPUR - Villagers of West Bengal’s West Mednapore went on a hunger strike on Monday demanding the release of a fellow villager, suspected of being a Maoist activist.

A doctor by profession, Jawaharlal Mahato was arrested on April 7 from Mathurapur village.

To demand his release and withdrawal of joint forces from the villages, nearly 2000 villagers from nearby villages went on hunger strike.

The Central and West Bengal Police force have been active in parts of West Bengal to control the activities of Maoist forces. (ANI)
