SRINAGAR - A reservation counter for booking houseboats was inaugurated at the Srinagar International Airport over the weekend.

Tourism Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Nawang Rigzin Jora and many other personalities were present at the ceremony.

The reservation counter was set up in collaboration with the state tourism department and the Houseboat Owners Association of Kashmir. It aims to help tourists by saving their time by providing them the facility to reserve houseboats just as they land in Srinagar.

“With a step like this, the entire house boat industry will be benefited; not only one person, but the entire industry will be benefited. Secondly, whenever a customer will come, they will reach there (houseboat) through a proper channel. They will be having an assurance that they have come through a proper organisation,” said Manzoor Wangnoo, President of Houseboat Owners Association, Srinagar.

Locals felt that this facility would enable every houseboat owner to get work, instead of just the more known ones.

“I think it is a very good step as everyone who visits Srinagar will definitely want to stay in a houseboat. So a counter like this will definitely make things much easier and much more accessible, and one will definitely stay one or two days at the houseboat,” said Nandini Darshan, a tourist from Mumbai.

The association even aims at opening the counter in Delhi very soon. (ANI)
