LUDHIANA - Golf is gaining in popularity in Ludhiana, with the opening of new golf course.
More and more enthusiasts are now showing interest in the game.
This was evident at a golf tournament organized on Saturday in the city in which around a hundred golfers took part.
With more and more youngsters opting for this game, experts feel that there should be more municipal golf courses built and maintained by the Government which would popularize the game.
“Though investment in golf is quite a bit, you need a huge area to make a golf course and at the same time the maintenance cost is also very high. That is why there are no municipal golf courses in Punjab,” said S K Sharma, President of Punjab Golf Association.
“So, the requirement is that there should be more municipal golf courses where the government provides the land and builds the courses for the people to play,” he added.
Sharma, further said during the span of last few years, the percentage of the golfers in the city has increased by five to six percent.
He also pointed out that the game would not only bring business to the state but also encourage youngsters to take up the sport.(ANI)
