LAHORE - The Pakistan Railways has put its plans of introducing a marriage special train on the backburner due to lack of funds and interest shown by people.

It may be noted that former Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid had announced to start special marriage trains for newly wed couples. The train, which was equipped with all modern facilities and luxuries, was also shown to the media, but the project failed to materialize.

“We have decided to turn these coaches into ordinary class train as the people were least interested to avail this expensive service and the project was becoming burden for the department,” The News quoted a senior Pakistan Railways official, as saying.

Exorbitant rates and inconvenience are being seen as major reasons behind the lack of people response to the much-publicized project.

According to an estimate, millions of rupees were spent on the manufacturing of the super luxury train coaches, which had 24 berths of AC business class and one bedroom. (ANI)
