SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- It has been reported that the latest in the long series of protests over the shooting of Oscar Grant had taken place on Thursday, Apr 8, in the Embarcadero BART station of San Francisco. Thankfully however, the demonstrations did not lead to any arrest, nor were the railway schedules upset in any way. It has been reported that even while the protests were being carried out, about 20 of the officials of BART were present on the scene, and they evidently did not notice untoward that might have led them to arrest any of the protesters, which is a welcome diversion from some of the previous protests that had taken place for the same cause.
According to the reports of the onlookers, there were about 200 protesters present at the venue. However, the count differs a bit, with some sources reporting that the number of protesters did not exceed 150. The protesters had placards in their hands that said slogans like “BART, You Betcha”, and also went on to chant their slogan of “No justice, no peace.” The BART protest was led by an activist group that is known as Oakland For Justice.
The BART protest was led against the murder of he 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was shot to death by an officer in one of the stations in Oakland. The officer, Johannes Mehserle, is currently undergoing trial for murder. The protesters claimed that they want the other officer, who was at the spot when Oscar Grant was killed, be fired and be taken into custody. They called the officer an accomplice in murder.
