‘Attacks on Indian students in Australia not being reported’

MELBOURNE - Indian students in Australia are still being attacked, but these violent incidents are not being reported despite a lull for a brief period.

The call comes as India has complained to the Victorian Government about a lack of official data on the type of violence being inflicted.

Gautam Gupta, a spokesman for the Federation Indian Students, said he believed attacks on Indian students were continuing, despite statistics pointing to a hiatus in incidents.

“It’s just that they’re not being reported adequately and that’s a big concern for us,” he told Sky News today.

Meanwhile, Indian Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal signed a deal with Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard in Melbourne on Thursday to expand education exchange programs, the AAP reports.

Sibal believed the attacks on young Indians had declined, but he told Fairfax newspapers more research was needed on violent incidents. (ANI)
