Cabinet enhances resource outlay for UNDP

NEW DELHI - The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the Home Ministry’s proposal to enhance the resource outlay of Government of India - United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Cabinet enhanced the allotment for Disaster Risk Management Programme (DRMP) (2002-09) from 34 million dollars to US 41 million dollars.

The Cabinet also approved post-facto extension of the DRMP upto June 30, 2009.

According to the Home Ministry, an additional outlay of seven million dollars is required to extend the programme to seven more districts affected by the Tsunami in Tamil Nadu and also to raise funds for assisting five North-Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

The ministry is planning to construct Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) and providing them basic equipment and critical emergency rescue kits. (ANI)
