NEW YORK - American tycoon Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to actor Sir Sean Connery for supporting him on his controversial one billion pound golf resort in Scotland’s Aberdeenshire area.
Speaking at the backstage of New York’s Dressed to Kilt fashion show hosted by Connery, Trump praised the Scottish actor, saying his support had been very welcome.
“I’m here to back Sean Connery, who backed me in this big project. I am doing in Scotland,” said Trump, who attended the show with his model wife Melania.
“He came out in strong support of me and as soon as he did that it all turned around. He is a great man and, he has got great power, so I am here to honour him,” he added.
It has been reported that despite Conney being a keen golfer, there is divided opinion over Trump’s plans to build ‘the world’s greatest golf course’ in Menie, north of Aberdeen.
His other future development includes two 18-hole championship golf courses, a luxury hotel and timeshare flats at the Menie Estate near Balmedie.
Construction work has already begun on the main championship golf course at the site.
The Trump family watched the show sitting in the VIP box alongside hosts Sir Sean and Lady Connery.
Donald Trump Junior represented the Trump family in the show, who in turn received a lukewarm reaction from the audience of Scots and New Yorkers.
“During tough economic times, this is a major vote of confidence in Scotland’s tourist industry and our ability to rise to the challenge,” said Sir Sean, who has been a staunch supporter of he Trump development for some time now. (ANI)
