Salvation Army store sells suitcase stuffed with 100K dlrs for a pittance!

MELBOURNE - An unsuspecting customer who purchased a suitcase from a Salvation Army store may be carrying 100,000dollars - a couple’s lifetime savings - stuffed into its lining.

The suitcase owners had mistakenly donated it to the Salvo store at Beaconsfield, in Melbourne’s outer east.

But it was too late when the couple realised their mistake; when the man approached the store staff and pleaded them to find the case he was told it had been sold two days earlier.

Salvation Army spokesman Brad Halse said an EFTPOS transaction on the day could help identify the suitcase’s new owner.

“Any person could have bought the suitcase and be completely unaware that there’s anything in the lining,” News.com.au quoted Halse, as saying.

He added: “They may not be planning to use the suitcase for six months, or they could be on a plane today.”

Halse said this was not the first time valuables had been accidentally given in for donations.

He said: “Odd things like this do occur. About six months ago, we had a similar thing occur.

“Sometimes people leave things of substantial value. A husband or wife may drop off something and not realise the vase is worth thousands of dollars, and not just 10 dollars.”

The police have been informed about the suitcase and Salvos are helping with the inquiry. (ANI)
