INGUSHETIA - A policeman has been killed in one of the two suicide bombings in Russia’s volatile North Caucasus region of Ingushetia, officials said.
According to news.com.au, in the first attack the bomb struck early in the morning at the local police headquarters in the Ingush town of Karabulak.
“A terrorist suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the Karabulak police department, as a result of which one officer died and three others were wounded,” the spokesman said, in a report also carried by the Interfax and ITAR-TASS news agencies.
Ingushetia is a predominantly Muslim region of Russia’s North Caucasus which neighbors war-torn Chechnya and has been troubled in recent years by a violent Islamist insurgency.
Russia has sought to tighten security and boost efforts to hunt down insurgents since a pair of suicide bombers attacked the Moscow metro last week, killing 40 people. (ANI)
