MASSACHUSETTS (GaeaTimes.com)- This April Fools Day, the people in Massachusetts were in for a major shock. The shock therapy was soon sustained by the residents of Illinois. A wonderful and innovative prank was played on the residents of these two states, and they were totally taken in by it, although later on, the realization seeped in that the whole matter was only a joke. The shocks came in the form of the Massachusetts and Illinois Pet Tax. Ridiculous as that may sound, the idea actually took many of the residents of the two states for a ride.
The joke was played by the two radio jockeys of the popular radio station of Massachusetts, Radio Mix 104.1, Karson and Kennedy. The two radio jockeys announced during their slot that the state of Massachusetts has decided to implement a pet tax. The story was soon taken up by the radio stations in the state of Illinois, who claimed that their state would be the second one where the pet tax would be implemented.
The story of the Massachusetts and Illinois pet tax was rendered even more authentic as the radio jockeys went so far as to include the name of a prominent politician, that of Representative Gary Richardson. They also mentioned in their prank the details of the tax, saying that it would be implemented on pet animals, and the payable amount would vary according to the weight of the animals. They also mentioned that it is not clear whether the Massachusetts and Illinois pet tax program would include small animals like lizards and frogs, and whether the President himself would have to pay the tax for his pet dog.
