BAJI MAHAL KALAKOTE - Two Laskar-e-Taiba militants were killed during a fierce gun battle with police and security forces in Baji Mahal forest of Kalakote in Rajouri district Jammu and Kashmir, officials here said on Saturday (March 27).

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Shafaqat watali, said four other militants were feared to have escaped.

Acting on a specific information that a group of militants, who recently crossed over to Indian side of Line of Control (LoC) are hiding in Baji Mahal forest in Dharamsal, about 56 kilometres from Rajouri, policemen led by Additional SSP Rajouri launched a cordon and search operation with the assistance of 60, 63 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 8 Maha Regiment personnel early in the morning.

The operation party was tracking the seven to eight militants, infiltrated into the Indian side and taken shelter in the area, when the ultras fired on them and hurled grenades.

The troops fired back resulting in a fierce gun battle in which two LeT militants were killed and two AK-47 rifles and ammunition seized.

“Today early morning they made contact with a group of militants and after a fierce encounter our forces killed two hardcore terrorists. The documents, arms and ammunition and other things, which we recovered from them, clearly shows that they are Pakistani militants. And the new arms and ammunition they were carrying indicates that this is the same group, which has recently infiltrated from Pakistan. It seems that some more militants of this group are hiding in the area and searches are going on to nab them and we hope that we will soon get success,” said Shafaqat Watali SSP Rajouri.
