Manipur people stage peaceful protest against militant’s violence

Imphal, Mar 26 (ANI): Militants have not spared anyone one in Manipur, however the people in the state are fed up with the never-ending violence and have taken to protesting against such incidents whenever they occur.
The harassment of people in Manipur by militants can be in the form of threats for money, extortions, abductions, ransoms and attacks at residences.
Recently, suspected KCP militant group attacked the residence of Thokchom Sumanta, Pradhan of Lamjaotongba Gram Panchayat at Tera Kongkham Leikai on March 12 over monetary demands.
The grenade was thrown during the attack but was defused by the police before it exploded.
“If they are really revolutionaries, as they say so, they shouldn’t be involved in activities like throwing bombs. We are all brothers and sisters. We should live in peace and harmony,” said Thokchom Sumanta, a victim.
Since the beginning of this year, militants have been responsible for many incidents that have created an atmosphere of uncertainty in the region.
On January 4, suspected armed PULF militants abducted G. Manisana Sharma of Charangpat Bengi Mamang Leikai, section officer of minor irrigation department. Sharma was released later.
People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, (PREPAK) attacked the residence of Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband in Imphal on January 6. A Manipur Rifles personnel who was on sentry duty of the residence was severely injured in the blast.
On 23rd February, two unidentified armed miscreants fired upon and attacked the residence of the Deputy Finance Officer of Manipur University Mayanglambam Biren while on February 26, a grenade was thrown at the residence of a Government contractor, Meitram Kesho at Lamshang.
On February 16 and 24, the Kshetrigao residence of Manipur Rural bank manager Md. Safir and Assistant Agriculture Officer Chongtham Jilla of Lamlai Awang Leikai were attacked.
On February 27, Oinam Tombi, an engineer at the Thoubal deputy commissioner’s office became the victim of KCP militant group due to his inability to pay the money demanded.
“We are suffering. It is happening frequently in our locality. Let’s live together with co-operation. We want an end to all the violence,” said Kaboklei, a protestor.
“We want to live in peace and harmony. They throw bombs at people’s houses without any sense of right and wrong. We want them to stop troubling us. We are asking them not to carry out such heinous acts again,” said Meena another protestor.
The people in the state are extremely unhappy by the militant led violence. All that they want is to lead normal, peaceful and happy lives.
And they are now coming forward to condemn the violence unleashed by the militants and even questioning their ideology. (ANI)
