Two killed, nine injured in oil tanker explosion in Punjab

FARIDKOT - Two persons were killed and nine others injured after an oil tanker overturned and exploded on Muktasar-Ferozepur Road in Punjab on Wednesday evening.

The truck, which was going to Faridkot from Bhatinda, overturned and caught fire.

Although the driver and his assistant managed to jump off, other vehicles were trapped in the area of the explosion.

One truck, a Maruti van and several two-wheelers were completely gutted. Fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“The other vehicles, which were on the road at that time came under the grip when the oil tanker exploded. A total of nine people were injured and two were brought dead. We have referred the two critically injured to PGI hospital in Chandigarh,” said A K Mittal, senior superintendent of police

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. (ANI)
