Hezbollah members questioned in Hariri case

BEIRUT — Lebanese security and judicial officials say international investigators have questioned members of the militant Hezbollah group in connection with the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The officials say a team from the Netherlands-based Special Tribunal for Lebanon has interviewed several members of the group in Beirut, among dozens of other people.

The judicial official said Thursday investigators were speaking to a range of people who could have information about the crime. Both men spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Many fear that if the Shiite Hezbollah is accused by the tribunal, it could lead to tension and even violence between Lebanon’s Shiite and Sunni communities.
