SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that the State is ready for civic polls, to be conducted in April.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Abdullah said: “”The electoral rolls and other preparations have to be done. We will also ensure that the conditions are conducive for those who want to vote, those who want to come out and use their vote in order to elect local bodies. I think it is important that these local bodies (elections) should not be seen the way assembly and parliamentary elections are seen.”

Omar Abdullah said that the polls would be held under the supervision of security personnel to avert any untoward incident.

Security Forces are cautions and taking all precautions to ensure a peaceful poll.

PVK Reddy, IG, CRPF said, “local police and CRPF had been put on high alert to foil any attempt by the militants to disturb the peace in the state.”

“It is good for the security scenario of the State that we have upper hand. In desperation they (militant) might try to do some incident like hurling a grenade. These are minor incidents and keep on taking place. But we have alerted our men and officers to take them on,” he added. (ANI)
