AGARTALA - An exclusive puppet carnival was hosted here on Sunday with the objective to preserve and popularise the art of puppetry.
The show enchanted the children and adults with interesting stories, endearing characters, colourful sets, lively music, songs and choreography.
Several professional puppeteers and some new artistes participated in the event.

“This is the first time I have seen a puppet show. Till now I have just seen the cartoon shows on TV but this is livelier and very interesting and I enjoyed it,” said Soma Burman, a member of the audience.
A puppet show is not just audio-visual medium but a multi-sensory form of performing art that caters to the need of almost lively mode of entertainment.
“This is one of the oldest forms of enjoyment and yet people like it. There have been several adaptations in puppetry according to time and necessity but still it is the most effective medium. People not only enjoy a puppet show but it can also be one of the most effective media of conveying information and it is true till date. Our younger generation can learn a lot about our rich culture through puppet shows,” opined Bipul, another audience member.
Puppetry has been one of the most ancient forms of entertainment in India. It has been an effective audio-visual art to convey varied messages of socio-economic significance.
Its character lies in its grotesque imitations of reality that draws the attention of the viewers with remarkable results. (ANI)
