NEW DELHI - The India-Bangladesh Joint River Commission will meet here today.
Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will lead the Indian side, while the Bangladeshi delegation will be headed by Ramesh Chandra Sen.
According to Water Resources Secretary U N Panjiyar, the focus of the meeting will be Teesta water sharing.
“At present, Bangladesh receives almost all the water as it is not being used by India. But after the ongoing construction of a barrage on the river is completed, some water will be utilised by us as well,” Panjiyar said.
The Ganga Treaty issue is also expected to come up during the two-day meet.
The two sides will also try to thrash out differences on the system to be adopted to decide on the actual availability of water in the river. (ANI)
