NEW DELHI - Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Friday said earning through commercial advertising including advertising on trains during the year 2008-09 was Rs. 157.47 crore.

“The amount spent on administration and passenger amenities depends upon the overall requirement and availability of funds,” said Ahamed adding that it does not have any direct co-relation with the earnings through advertisements.

“Policy guidelines already exist for commercial advertising on trains,” he claimed.

Ahamed further in his letter said that there are various schemes of commercial advertising on interior and exterior of trains like display of advertisement panels, vinyl wrapping of coaches, package of advertising rights on trains etc.

“Advertising is permitted in all categories of trains irrespective of route,” he added. (ANI)
