JAIPUR - Vidhayakpuri police station in Jaipur has been adjudged the ‘best police station in Asia’ by a United States-based survey, for providing smooth public services and ensuring speedy disposal of cases.
The police station located in Jaipur city’s south zone, has about one lakh people under its jurisdiction.
The award will be received by the district police chief at Abuja in Nigeria on March 25 and 26.
Ramesh Chand, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station enunciated the impeccable record that the station has which helped them bag the award.
“We lodge computerized First Information Report (FIRs). All our records are up-to-date. Within five minutes we can provide you with any record required. The cases are disposed of within 15 days and only complicated cases take time. In 2008, 537 cases were registered and in 2009, 746 cases were registered a rise of 200 cases. But we still managed to dispose of all the cases of the district in time. Our disposal rate was 3.5 per cent, ” said Ramesh Chand.
The award has been instituted by New York-based Altus Global Alliance, an organisation working for public safety and justice across the globe. They conduct annual surveys of all law-enforcement units and grade them on merit.
The police station has a clean ambience, 24-hour CCTV surveillance and computerized system of working. The police barracks are well furnished and there are elaborate and well-maintained filing cabinets with separate colour codes for police files according to their status of investigation.
It is equipped with a reception, personnel gym lawn, a plasma TV lounge and plush interiors.
But the thing that attracts most is the behavior of the police personnel in the station. They are known for their performance, professionalism, transparency and respect towards the public.
“The biggest advantage of this police station is the cordial way in which we deal and behave with the public. The people get speedy response and all cases are heard quickly. We try our best to get the people justice. As per public response we are way ahead the other police stations,” said Likhma Ram, a constable.
Two other Indian police stations Chandigarh’s Sector 17 and Vadakkenchery in Kerala, also made it to the final list in the survey on parameters such as public satisfaction, service delivery and working conditions. (ANI)
