MUMBAI - Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s daughter-in-law, Smita Thackeray, organised a women’s march here ahead of International Women’s Day.

Over 500 women from all walks of life voiced their opinion on issues related to gender equality. They also raised slogans in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill to be taken up by Parliament next week.

‘Smita Thackeray’s Forum for Women’ would take up issues related to women’s injustice and empowerment of women.

“I would only want to say to all the women in our country that we should group together and retaliate against the injustice towards the women. We have to face it, and stay united to fight against it, and we would make all the women independent enough so that they can stand on their own feet,” said Thackeray.

Bollywood actress Sarika, who joined the march, said women’s issues are of prime concern.

“There is problem with everybody. There is problem with women, there is problem with children, child labour, there is problem for human being in general, so I suppose you can’t be doing so much for so many people, you do little for some part of people and every one step is important as you are moving in the right direction,” she said.

Women across India are eagerly awaiting Monday, the day when the Rajya Sabha, takes up the Women’s Reservation Bill for discussion.

This Bill had been stalled for over a decade due to a sharp difference of opinion among political parties. (ANI)
