IMPHAL - Acts of violence and crimes against women and children are going up in Manipur.
To denounce such acts and to ensure the “right to life” to the womenfolk and children, a mass rally was held in the state.
A protest march that opposed crimes against women and children was recently flagged off from the Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School in Manipur.he rally, organized under the joint aegis of New Life Foundation, Manipur, United Community Development Platform and NGOs in the state, concluded with a public meeting at INA Memorial in Moirang.
A resolution on creating a safer and prosperous society for women and children in the state was reached during the public meeting.
Hundreds of protestors, mainly women carried various placards with slogans like ‘Stop killing women’, ‘Stop trafficking children’ and ‘Respect the rights of women’.
“Such rally and public meeting by masses will reduced such crimes upto some extent. If law and people show their disapproval and condemnation against such acts, people will think twice before committing crimes in future,” said Pishak Singh, secretary, New Life Foundation.
“Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Act and Juvenile police unit should be put up in every district. That way crime against children will be controlled. Women commission bodies for women will help in controlling violence against them,” said Indira, a local.
Recently, a child trafficking racket was busted, when 79 children out of whom 55 were from Manipur and the rest from Assam, were rescued from forced labor and brought back to Manipur from two unlicensed homes in Chennai.
