Ground clear for talks with ULFA: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI - Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that the ground is clear for talks with rebel leaders of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).
Gogoi recently met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to apprise him of latest developments on the rebels.
Gogoi said, “Union Home Minister Chidambaram asked for my opinion. Frankly speaking, he said whether we should go for talks or not. This is basic thing, I said; we should go for talks, he wants to take Assam government into confidence, he doesn’t want to take any action on his own, he made this very clear.”
“He said whether there should be talks or not, I said yes there should be talks. We got some indication that some are willing to talk, but some are still left out,” added Gogoi.
Chidambaram also suggested that the State Government should wait for ULFA leaders to submit their demands first, said Gogoi.
“Chidambaram did not ask anything about the NIS (National Investigation Service), investigation NIS,” he claimed.
Gogoi had on February 19 said he wanted talks in a congenial atmosphere. (ANI)
