BSF official surrenders before police in Kashmiri teenager killing case

SRINAGAR - The suspended BSF officer in the case of killing of a Kashmiri teenager surrendered before the police on Thursday (March 04).

R K Birdi, who was posted as a commandant of 68th battalion of Border Security Force(BSF), has been accused of killing Zahid Farooq, a teenager, in Nishat near Srinagar on February 5.

Birdi himself handed over the accused BSF constable, Lakhvinder to police.

Birdi’s Counsel Moulvi Ejaz while addressing the media said that his client was never absconding but was cooperating with the investigation team.

“He has always, right from the day one, present with the investigation, assisting the investigation. He was never absconding.” said Ejaz.

Moulvi Ejaz further added that Birdi was taken for custodial investigations.

“He has presented himself before the special investigation team for investigation and special investigation team of the police is assiduously and honestly investigating into the matter and according to the version of the special investigation team there are certain allegations against him and the special investigation team has taken him for custodial investigations right now,” added Ejaz.

R K Birdi arrest is being seen as the first major step by the Government towards reaching out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Birdi is the first senior most security official to be arrested in Kashmir is last 20 years. (ANI)
