Nigerian delegation calls on Rural Development Minister Joshi

NEW DELHI - A high level Nigerian delegation led by Adewale Aribisala, Chairman of the Nigerian House Committee on Millennium Development Goals, called on the Union Rural Development Minister Dr. C.P. Joshi here on Tuesday.

The 20 member visiting delegation comprising the Members of Nigerian Parliament evinced keen interest in various rural development programs under the Rural Ministry.

In his address, the Rural Development Minister Dr. Joshi highlighted the measures undertaken by the Government to ameliorate the conditions of rural masses, especially of the rural poor.

Dr. Joshi also shared the experiences related to the flagship programme namely- the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Indira Awas Yojana, the National Rural Drinking Water Program, the Total Sanitation Campaign, the National Social Assistance program and the Provision of Urban amenities in Rural Areas.

The visiting delegation appreciated the Indian counterparts for sharing the ideas related to the welfare of the rural people.

The Nigerian team is on an India visit as a part of its Millennium Development Goals Study Tour. (ANI)
