The NY Butch Bakery that serves ‘mancakes’!

NEW YORK - If you thought cupcakes were for kids and ladies, then please drive your attention to NY’s Butch Bakery, where the dainty desserts have been ‘re-imagined’ as macho indulgences.
One of the 12 such cupcakes, that lawyer-turned baker David Arrick has prepared, aims to serve men’s indulgence is named ‘Beer Run.’
It is a chocolate beer-infused cupcake, which has beer-buttercream icing and pretzel topping. One day I was walking in the West Village by a cupcake place. There was a dad sitting with his little girl at this princess table, all girly and pink. The dad looked at me through the window and just rolled his eyes,” the New York Daily News quoted Arrick as saying.
He added: “That was my ‘ah-ha’ moment. Who says cupcakes have to be feminine?”
Arrick started the bakery after he lost his job as a Wall Street lawyer.
He said: “I had to teach myself to cook so that I could, well, eat. I called up my 6-year-old nephew and said, ‘How would you like a batch of camo cupcakes?’ He went bananas. So I also asked friends, girls and guys, if they would buy macho cupcakes and they said yes too.”
He runs the bakery from a Web site (butchbakery.com) instead of a storefront.
Arrick added: “I saved a lot of money this way. And the cupcakes can be delivered anywhere in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. I get a lot of ‘Dad’s 40th birthday’ or ‘Boyfriend’s 30th birthday’ orders.
“A lady e-mailed from Australia and asked, ‘Why do you have to make it a man-versus-woman thing?’ I was like, really? They’re cupcakes. They’re supposed to be fun.”
One of the cupcakes in the menu is the Tailgate (caramel cake with salty caramel filling), the Campout (think of s’mores) and the Rum and Coke (rum-soaked vanilla cake with soda frosting). (ANI)
