ULFA leaders released on bail, hopes for early talks

GUWAHATI - United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Mithinga Daimary, who was released on bail here on Thursday, has described the government’s decision to let him out of jail as a positive step, and has demanded the release of all the other top leaders of the outfit currently in jail.

“This freedom is a positive sign for talk process However since most of the top leaders are still in the jail, I hope the government will take steps to free the rest of the leaders,” Daimary told reporters outside a court in Guwahati on Thursday.

He made it clear that the ULFA had already decided to sit for peace talks with the government.

Earlier, ULFA vice chairman Pradeep Gogoi was granted bail by the court Meanwhile, State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that his government was ready to hold talks with ULFA and bring everybody to the negotiating table.

“We have been trying to rope in Paresh Barua, his group, but till today we have not got the positive signal Our whole idea is to bring together the whole groups, everybody, - lock, stock and barrelso that we will have 100 percent talks with ULFA leaders,” said Gogoi.

Notably, several other top ULFA leaders have been languishing in jail These include Arabinda Rajkhowa, Raju Baruah, Sasha Choudhury, Chitrabon Hazarika, Pranati Deka and Bhimkanta Buragohain (ANI)
