Railways to set up multi-disciplinary training centres

NEW DELHI - Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said Research, Design and Standards Organisation would be revamped to bring in line with the modern research organizations.
“The Research, Design and Standards Organisation will now be revamped to bring in line with the modern research organizations and a Centre for Railway Research would be set up in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur for research in key areas of technology and to give a thrust to indigensiation in the Railways,” said Ms. Mamata in the Lok Sabha.
“The Railways would establish strong research partnerships with premier institutes like IITs, NITs, CSIR and DRDO. The expansion of Indian Railways and modernization would require a strong emphasis on developing indigenous research and development capabilities,” she added.
She also proposed the setting up of four multi-disciplinary training centres at Cuttack, Coochbehar, Malda and Jabalpur. In addition, a state-of-the-art advanced loco pilot training centre would also be set up at Kharagpur.
The Railway Minister also announced the setting up of an advanced Railway Track Training Centre at Beleghata for training of gangmen and gatemen. (ANI)
