Indian Rail Budget 2010-11: Key Highlights

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee is all set to present her ‘aam admi’ Budget today. Rail Budget 2010-11 is expected to be a profitable one for both common people and Railway department.
Targeting the 2011 assembly election in West Bengal and Bihar, Mamata Banerjee seems reluctant hiking passenger fare in this budget.
The rail budget is aimed at strengthening security force as well as infrastructure development and modernization of the Railways.
Railways Vision document that was revealed in the Winter Season of Parliament last year, by honorable Railway Minister will be implemented in this budget. The document is subjected to generate more employment in the Railway department.
Freight charges for items like iron ore and cement are likely to increase, while freight charge for food grains will remain same.
There are proposals of more non-stop Duronto and Jan Shatabdi express trains. Mamata Banerjee is often accused of being partial to her home state West Bengal. We hope, this time she will gift a lot of railway projects to the people of India, irrespective of states.
