Sydney named world’s best gay-friendly city

MELBOURNE - A survey of the world’s best gay-friendly cities has placed Sydney at the top of the list.

The survey conducted by online travel agency Expedia.com.au, named Sydney for its plentiful gay bars and nightclubs in the Darlinghurst and Newtown areas, reports the Daily Telegraph.

This year’s Mardi Gras parade, held since 1978, is on February 27 and the theme is Mardi Gras History of the World.econd on the list is Cape Town, South Africa, and third spot went to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, home to one of the world’s first gay bars, ‘t Mandje.

Sao Paulo, Brazil came in fourth, with Tel Aviv, Israel at fifth, Berlin, Germany at sixth and San Francisco in the US at seventh.

Having legalised same-sex marriage in 2005, Canada has made the list with Toronto, due to host the international World Pride event in 2014.

London also made the list as well as Argentina’s Buenos Aires. (ANI)
