JAMMU - Police Monday baton charged to stop a march by activists of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) towards the civil secretariat here to protest alleged increase in human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.
Police said the PDP workers were baton charged when they tried to force their way towards the secretariat.
“Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC are in force and they (PDP workers) were trying to breach that law,” a senior police official said.
However, no one was hurt, he said.
The PDP workers were led by their party president Mehbooba Mufti, who said that the government was showing zero tolerance toward those raising human rights issues.
“We will continue to raise the voice of the people,” she said.
