Farooq Abdullah calls for greater use of renewable energy in northeast

ITANAGAR - Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah has called for greater use of renewable energy for ensuring a greener and pollution free northeast region.

Addressing the programme organised to mark Arunachal Pradesh’s 24th Statehood Day Celebration here, Abdullah appreciated the region for its abundant resource and forest cover and stressed the importance to maintain it.

In his address Abdullah observed that the renewable energy in the border areas would serve as a boon to the people as it would not only provide electricity but also ensure dissemination of proper information and knowledge about health, education, and environment through electronic means.

During his interactions with Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and other senior officials of the state government, Abdullah assured to provide all possible assistance for renovation and modernisation of mini, micro and small hydro projects in the state.

He also assured to look into the demand for adequate fund for other projects under various stages of progress including installation of solar lights and heating system at vital areas. ANI)
