KOLKATA - The Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) personnel and their family members took out a silent protest march against the suspension of Special Inspector General (IG) Binoy Chakraborty in West Midnapore District’s Saluah on Sunday evening.

Earlier in the day, the West Bengal Government suspended Chakraborty for making comments against its poor response to anti Maoist operations.

In a televised interview Chakraborty blasted the state government over last week’s Maoist attack in which 24 EFR personnel were killed.

Chakraborty accused the state government of ignoring the forces and said the forces did not have the proper infrastructure to take on the Maoists.

The protestors have issued a deadline to the government to reinstate Chakraborty within 48 hours.

They also threatened to take protest to a different level if the government fails to revoke the suspension order.

In New Delhi, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari criticised West Bengal Government’s action against Chakraborty and said the action exposed helplessness police force.

“The IG’s suspension exposed the helplessness of policemen in West Bengal, adding that when the administration is politicized, it is the end result,” he said. (ANI)
