Saraswat highlights landmarks of DRDO ahead of annual conference

NEW DELHI - Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat highlighted the various landmarks of the defence establishment, which included both domestic as well as its global significance.
Addressing the media, Dr Saraswat said the 34th conference of DRDO that will be attended by its directors is basically to lay a new road map for the next three decades as a firm stepping-stone to be abreast with the latest technologies around the world.
Dr Saraswat said, “This year the conference is basically to lay a new road map for the next 25 to 30 years of our effort in building the technologies for the twenty-first century. What we are looking at DRDO today is to not only build systems what is on the plate today.”
“Whether they are strategic or traditional, what we are looking today is that (vis-à-vis) technology we have to build for 2015 or 2020 beyond,” added Dr Saraswat.
Responding to a question on the applications of remotely piloted ground vehicle, he stated that the DRDO scientists have proved their mettle.
“In defence, we had demonstrated how a remotely piloted ground vehicle could operate. Now these many applications (are) for mining operations, de-mining operations, surveillance radars, but we want to build it for bigger systems,” observed Dr Saraswat.
The annual 34th conference of the DRDO will be held in New Delhi from February 22 to February 24.
The conference is intended to bring together the top innovative scientists of DRDO to discuss and debate on areas and roadmap of future research and technology developments. (ANI)
