Ragging in Jharkhand engineering college

RANCHI - Jharkhand Police has registered a case against certain students for ragging the juniors at an engineering college here on Thursday.
Vikas Kumar and Jivesh, the two students of Cambridge Institute came forth and complained to the Principal and also before the local police.
Both of them are second year students.
They recalled the gory incident on how the seniors summoned them to their room and severely beat them with rods and belts.
Briefing the media persons, Shambhu Thakur, Superintendent of Police, Ranchi mentioned that action is being taken against the accused senior students.
“In the case of ragging, the second year students were beaten up by their seniors. A proper first information report (FIR) has been lodged and we are taking action in this case,” Thakur added.
Family members of the victimised students and many others expressed their deep shock at the incident.
In the past few years, ragging - a phenomenon very similar to the American hazing - has come under fire after a spate of ragging-related suicides was reported over the years. (ANI)
