Kite festival in Jharkhand

DHANBAD - The Indian School of Mines organised ‘Basant 2010-Kite Festival’ to welcome the spring season.

“Basant is our festival and it is celebrated everywhere. Without kite flying, the celebrations are incomplete. Kite festival is organised in Kabul and Pakistan also, and I got inspired by all those countries and organised it in Jharkhand for the first time because this is the time when all our seniors come to visit us. We express our happiness and excitement through this kite festival,” said Shailendra Kumar, organiser of ‘Basant 2010-Kite Festival’.

The team from Kolkata who were participating presented various attractive designs of kites from Japan, China, Germany, Afghanistan as also from India.

“This kite festival is happening in Jharkhand for the first time. We have brought kites with designs from Japan, China, India and also Afghanistan. One of these kites was shown in Hollywood movie ‘Kite Runner’. We have been noticing that the students are really enjoying the festival with a wide variety of kites,” said Ujjwal Roy, Head of Kolkata team. (ANI)
