Clash kills 2 in Palestinian camp in Lebanon
BEIRUT — Palestinian officials say a clash between Islamic militants and Fatah gunmen has killed at least two people in a refugee camp in Lebanon.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the clash in the Ein el-Hilweh camp, where gunfights are common between armed groups jockeying for power.
Monday’s confrontation involved gunmen from the militant Asbat al-Ansar group and guerrillas from the mainstream Palestinian Fatah movement.
The officials say two bystanders died and a Fatah member was seriously wounded. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to make official statements.
The echo of gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades reverberated in the camp and nearby city of Sidon and prompted some families to flee.
