Government agrees to amnesty for Kashmiri militants in Pakistan

NEW DELHI - The government has accepted the idea of granting amnesty to Kashmiri militants in Pakistan who want to return without weapons and join the mainstream, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Thursday, adding the process of how to do it needed wider consultation.

The idea of granting amnesty to Kashmiri youth in PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) has been accepted. The idea must be translated into action, Chidambaram told reporters.

The home minister said that the government will hold consultation with various political parties about the return of the militants.
