Cold shuts out India-theme dance extravaganza in Germany

HAMBURG - An Indian dance extravaganza in Germany has gone out of business after snow and cold outdoors put off audiences, the event’s website said.
The show, employing acrobats and dancers from India, was created by European impresario Franco Dragone, with publicity material saying the spectacles came straight from the palaces of maharajas.
But in Hamburg, where snow has lain on the ground since mid-December, and ice has made streets treacherous, audiences proved thin for an evening with dancers, musicians, fakirs and jugglers. The website said the shortfall in ticket sales had mounted to 70,000.
On Monday, ticket-holders were turned away. According to the newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt, the operating company, Prime Time Entertainment AG, filed an application Tuesday for insolvency, a move that will add to the difficulties of contractors seeking payment.
The company said the closure in Hamburg meant the show would not be moving on to Berlin, Vienna and other cities.
